Wimbledon Tickets
Details
have been circulated to all British Tennis Members and a notice
is in the Clubhouse. If you wish to be included in future
ballots then sign up now to British Tennis see link on left
hand column. The ballot this year will take place on Tuesday
30th March at
7.30 pm.
A racket
demo will be held on Tuesday 30th March.
Rackets will be available to try out and purchase during the
evening from 6 pm onwards. Mainly full size rackets, but a
couple of Head YouTek Junior ones.
Please come along to our
Annual Club Clean up and help to tidy up the courts and
Clubhouse. Last year we were down to a dedicated few it is
good for morale to know someone cares enough to turn up! It
should only take a few hours from 10am onwards refreshments
and good company will be provided. A list of jobs to be done
will be in the Clubhouse prior to the 21st, but will
include plenty of cleaning and general tidying up.
Check out the lost property
in the Ladies Changing room before then it will all be ditched
or donated to Charity if not claimed.
Does anyone have any floor
covering that could be used to replace the ageing carpet tiles?
A fan heater for the clubhouse (see below)? Any other ideas for
improving the Clubhouse contact Peter Moreton 01524 762043
Unfortunately, the white electric fan heater disappeared
from the Clubhouse in January during the snowy snap. This was
on loan from a member and a new one has had to be purchased from
Club funds, so that our members and junior parents can have some
sort of warmth.
Also
missing are 2 clear plastic boxes which held the balls.
If anyone
has any information on the whereabouts of these, please contact
the Secretary or replace them asap if you borrowed these
items.
After the
successful event last year, won by Jan Whalley and Nick Higham
we are again running a Save the Children Mixed Doubles
Tournament. This will be open to members of other Clubs in the
area and we hope to attract as many couples as possible to
challenge Jan and Nick. All proceeds to go to Save the
Children.
Date for
the diary Sunday 18th July 2 pm.
Current
leaders on 14 points are Denise and Royden and Rae and Clive on
14 points, closely followed by Jan and Nick. Unfortunately,
there have been numerous injuries this year, some withdrawals
and added to the snow problems, it has been a tough time for Rae
to organise thanks to her again for doing her best in trying
circumstances! Matches have to be played by 31st March 2010
Veteran
Winter League matches are played with teams of 2 couples one
afternoon a week from the start of October to end March, 22
matches in total. If rained or snowed off, then it is a draw.
I try to play a wide range of players to give everyone a chance
to play. At half time (January) we were third out of 11, with
53 ½ points, ½ a point behind Slyne Badgers and 12 ½ points
behind the reigning league winners Bowerham. We are nearing the
end of the season with only 2 matches to go and so far we have
had a stronger second half, with 57 points, so hopefully we will
have moved to second place. So far we have not lost any matches
and only three rained/snowed off.
Quiz
Night
18
members and friends turned out on a cold Sunday evening evening
for the first social event of the year, a quiz night, at the
Cross Keys in Milnthorpe. There were 4 teams depending on the
size of the tables and the winning team was Alan, Linda. Clive,
Marten and John Bowers.
Peter
thanked Eunice for all her efforts and as the second successful
quiz night following on from 2009, it seems to be a regular
fixture in our social calendar now.
Now that
Dallam School has its new sporting facilities at the Milnthorpe
site daytime use by the School will be negligible from now on.
The courts will therefore be free most of the day and anyone
wishing to set up regular 4s or turn up and play sessions,
should be able to do so. Contact the Secretary if you wish to
organise these and we will circulate other members.
There are
also opportunities for indoor tennis with 2 indoor courts
(Heversham and Milnthorpe) and block bookings are available at a
concessionary rate. Details to be posted on the Noticeboard and
circulated soon.
